FREEDOM4 believes that WiFi is not a competitor to WiMAX but rather it is complimentary. Thus, FREEDOM4 is also investing in WiFi hotspots.
The acceptance of WiMAX technology will be accelerated by the volume of WiFi products in use globally. WiFi devices such as computers, telephones or PDAs can connect to the internet when in proximity of an access point. The region covered by one or several access points is called a hotspot. Hotspots can range from a single room to many square miles of overlapping hotspots. WiFi was intended to be used for mobile computing devices, but is now used increasingly for applications, including internet and VoIP phone access, gaming, and basic connectivity of consumer electronics.
